ASHTANGA YOGA CAN BE VERY VIGOROUS AT TIMES, ESPECIALLY IN THE ADVANCED LEVELS. PLEASE READ THE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS BELOW.
Class Description
INTRO TO ASHTANGA
Level 1 - Foundations of yoga philosophy, breathing & basic postures. This class is ongoing and beginners who have experience in exercise a sport or athletics may start at any time. If you are a couch potato or haven’t exercised in quite some time then it’s best to begin with the 6 Weeks Beginner Course or the Avergage Joe Flow.
MYSORE STYLE
All Levels. The Mysore style engages students in a self-paced, individualized practice in a group setting. This class format allows for each student to receive private instruction from the teacher, & enables students of all levels to progress at a pace that is right for them. Students at any level including those with injuries & are new to yoga are encouraged to join us in this unique method of yoga practice. Special class rate~$15 per week includes T & TH Mysore class plus W Primary Series.
PRIMARY SERIES
Level 2-3 - Entire first series of Ashtanga yoga. Yoga Chikitsa or Yoga Therapy. This class includes sun salutations, the entire standing and finishing sequences.
WESTCOAST FLOW™
This class is exclusive to Yoga Underground created by the director Tammy Tsai. Westcoast Flow™ is a vinyasa class firmly rooted in the Ashtanga tradition while also drawing from the numerous vinyasa styles taught primarily in southern California. By incorporating all of these different components the result is a class firmly rooted in traditional Yogic philosophy while allowing room for playful improvisation of foundation postures and sequencing. Westcoast Flow™ is electric, vigorous and joyful!
AVERAGE JOE FLOW
Level 1 Easy - If the Intro to Ashtanga Class is too challenging for you, or you are intimidated by your inflexibility, or you just need a calm and relaxing way to end your day then this is the class for you! The Average Joe Flow will offer easy yoga postures and stretching at a slow pace allowing for the student to use proper breathing to open the body, gain more flexibility and reduce stress. No experience necessary.
ASHTANGA PREP-1-2
Level 1 - This class is for the Level 1 practitioner who is preparing to move on to Level 2. The class will begin with the standing sequence and several of the seated postures. The second half of the class will workshop the more difficult postures done in the Level 2 class such as Sirsasana (headstand), Urdhva Dhanurasana (Wheel) and jumping through and back to name a few.
ASHTANGA PREP-2
Level 2 - This class is faster paced. Introduction of more challenging postures of the primary series. Not for the first time student.
MODIFIED PRIMARY SERIES
All Levels - This class is for students who are proficient with the Intro to Ashtanga class. The Modified Primary is the next step toward the full Primary Series class. The class will move at a slower pace than the full Primary with more instruction and modifications offered for the more difficult postures. Also, methods will be taught on how to approach the challenging postures of the full Primary.
*Following the traditions in Mysore India, there will be no Open/Mysore practice on the days of the new and full moons. All other scheduled classes on new or full moon days will be modified.

Class Guidelines
- Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the scheduled class time. New students should arrive 15 minutes before attending their first class. Arriving late is disruptive to other students.
- Don’t eat before class. In general a light meal 2-3 hours before is best.
- Hydrate before, not during class.
- Please refrain from wearing perfumes, heavy scents and oils to class.
- Keep cell phones & alarm watches out of the studio.
- We have a number of mats & props for your use. However as you continue your practice a personal mat is extremely useful.
- Wear comfortable fitting clothing. Avoid extremely loose and baggy clothing.
